Poker Tournaments Can Reap Huge Rewards

By DT Walker

If you play poker online, then you know what a rush it is to "pull up a seat". The advantage of playing online is you can register with any poker room and be playing a tournament within minutes, whether it's for pin money or high stakes.

There are a number of freeroll tournaments that you can participate in on a daily basis to get some important tournament-related experience without spending a penny. Sometimes it is possible to add to your real money bankroll by slowly building it from your freeroll winnings.

These "free" to enter tournaments are also a fantastic way of winning a place at some of the largest in-person tournaments around, so you need to know how to take advantage of them. If you play your cards right you could turn a small entry fee (or even a free one) into a seat at the World Series of Poker!

The greatest thing about playing tournaments is everyone starts with the same amount of chips and you don't have a player coming into a ring game with $500 to your $25. All players start on a level playing field with the same bankroll, it can be anything from 1000-1500 in tournament chips.

In tournaments the pot looks a little sweeter because once someone is eliminated, he or she is out. Not only will your carefully concealed A-A win you a stack of chips, it will also dump guy to your left out of the tournament!

Whatever tournaments you choose to play online, make sure you understand the prize structure. Who knows, you could be one of the lucky ones and actually win one of the satellite tournaments. What better way to become a high roller than to win a tournament that sends you to the World Series of Poker?

Real Money vs. Play Money - Making the Transition & What to Keep in mind

By Valentino Viccetzar

Overview

One of the things that so attractive about online poker is the prevalence of play money. Some casinos have special programs for offering customers free 'money' to gamble with. Of course, the principle behind these programs, online as well as offline, is that you will get such a thrill gambling with the so called free money, you'll decide to keep it up gambling with real money. The aim of this article is to outline the advantages and disadvantages of real money versus play money.

Playing With Play Money

A "free-roll" tournament is one that doesn't require real money although it pays out real prize money to the winner. Particularly for those who don't have much tournament-playing experience, free-roll tournaments are really a lot of fun and very low-risk. There's no risk of losing any money.

You should certainly use play money if you're a new player or if you're looking to brush up on your poker skills. There is no need to make any kind of purchase or provide credit card information for play money poker.

The most common types of freerolls are "frequent player points", called FPPs. This is the best kind of free because all you need to do to acquire these FPPs is to sign up and play. You can then amass points; earning points as part of the loyalty program. Many sites allow you to earn FPPs by playing in the play money games. Many less experienced players should get started without going to the trouble of depositing real money.

Playing With Real Money

A real money buy-in, as the name suggests, requires you to use real money. Online poker sites require you to deposit real funds into a secure account. In casinos, you generally have to buy chips. If you do a bit of money-management, you can plan ahead enough to make online money transfers in a few seconds without transaction fees.

Once you are confident of your poker skills you can decide to take the plunge. Making a deposit of cash to play online involves using one or more of the following money transfer methods:

1) Credit Card

2) FirePay

3) Neteller

4) Switch/Maestro

5) Bank Draft

6) InstaCash

7) Visa/MasterCard

8) ePassporte

9) Wire Transfer

Things to Consider: Real versus Play

It's increasingly important to consider the legal aspects of online poker playing and online gambling. You need to try and get a handle on the laws that affect online poker play. Unfortunately the laws in most of the countries around the world really are very slow to mature; they're slow to pickup and change their policies and programs. This is equally true of individual companies. Several online poker sites now do not allow US-based players access due to changes in the law that look to outlaw online gambling, apparently including poker.

Although the best advice is to consult with a legal expert if you have specific concerns, it is still challenging for lawyers and other experts to make definitive assessments of what is a lawful activity and what is not. At the time of writing this article, no person in any country has yet been charged as a criminal for playing online poker with real money.

Another thing to consider: negative tilts in poker can be extremely destructive and bankroll management is something you really need to be on top of if you're playing with real money. Everyone goes on a negative tilt every now and again. It's a reality even the best and most experienced players have to deal with; if you make a transition from play money to real money, you must have enough of a bankroll to cover the down tilts and protect your game from your own psychology. Although this is more important when it comes to real money management and it should factor somewhere in your decision-making process about real money versus play money. You should also take into account the kind of game you're involved in and the kind of players you're up against. Just as you should shift tables every now and again, there's nothing stopping you playing with both real and fake money.

Above all, you should remember that poker is a game. If you find yourself playing with real money and being preoccupied about your bankroll in a way that seems at all unhealthy or destructive, you should certainly stop playing with real money and revert to free money.

Whether you play with real or free money you should have fun.

Poker Lessons - Learn To Play Poker Free

By Paul Westin

Poker lessons are a necessary and required skill to learn to play poker free. Like any activity, whether it is sports, music or a professional career, all require some sort of guided lessons to become successful. The best poker lessons are learned through experience and self-education. However, one could spend hundreds of hours in that respect. Therefore, an alternative to learn to play poker free is through shortcut methods. The best shortcut method is learning tricks of the trade from professionals and applying that to your poker game experience.

For example, if I teach you to raise in the hijack position with small suited connectors, you will never experience how well that works until you actually try it. For that reason, I encourage my poker students to learn to play poker free by playing in online poker freerolls. Then applying the strategies that I instruct for an experience of how those lessons work in a real life situation. After picking up a few lessons, you should find opportunities to use them in each poker tournament or cash game you play. Expanding your knowledge through each lesson will also expand your earnings.

Another example of a poker lesson; while most Texas Holdem players are familiar with bluffing, the majority have limited knowledge on how to execute a proper bluff to win a pot. Learning poker lessons on how to bluff will not only improve your game, it will increase your bankroll. Furthermore, if accomplished according to professional poker lessons you receive, you rarely get caught bluffing.

The first step to learn how to play poker free is by reading well thought out poker lessons from professionals. Avoid the hype and misinformation found all over the internet. Although every poker player has an opinion on how to do this or that, the bottom line is learning from a professional source are your best bet. Additionally, you should shy away from poker lessons that cost money until you have reached the point in your game that you can no longer learn from all the free sources.

Plenty of top professionals do NOT make a habit of revealing some of the most effective poker strategy to the public. (After all, why would they?) Therefore, you must learn how to play poker free by experiencing those lessons and then consider paying a professional to teach you one on one in the future. Three Ways to Play Free Online Poker

By Ian Mcintosh

Getting to play poker online for free is the holy grail for a lot of poker players. You get to play your favourite poker games and it doesn't cost you anything. What could be better!

There are three distinct ways that you can play poker free online; play money poker, poker freerolls and bonuses. Here are a few pointers on each of the ways to play free.

Play Money Poker

Playing poker for play money is a great way to learn the game and get yourself familiarized with the poker table. Every online poker site has a section where you can play for play money before you risk any of your real cash. If you are a beginner this is a fantastic way to cut your teeth and find out the ins and outs of actual table play. You might have seen it on the TV before, but this is a giant step, playing your own hands, making your own decisions and all against other real players.
One word of caution about the play money tables however, the standard of play there is very poor. You might even win on your first attempt so don't get carried away and think you can transfer this success to the real money tables immediately, you have another steep learning curve to overcome there too!

Freerolls

These are tournaments where the hosting site puts up a prize fund and lets any signed up members enter for free. That means you can play free online poker and have a chance of picking up a cash prize. Most of the big sites do some sort of freeroll or another, but there is an inherent danger with them, the time vortex.
This is where all of your time slips into a black hole as you sit there for hour after hour playing the freerolls for the chance of winning a prize that is, frankly, not really worth the effort unless you are badly in need of the cash and are a very good player.
The best thing about freerolls is that you get the chance to play large multi table poker tournaments and get to sample the pressure and relentlessness of that type of play.
They will give you a good grounding for when you make the WSOP!

Bonuses

The third way that you can use to play free online poker is by signing up and getting bonuses on your real money deposits. This is fairly self explanatory of course, you just play with the bonus money and keep your own. Hopefully you will manage to increase your bonus amount through winning, if not you can simply move on to the next site.
There are poker sites offering anything from 20% to 100% for new signups and existing players on the site. Shop around and get yourself the best deal.

There you have it then, three simple ways you can play free online poker!

Freeroll Poker Tournaments - The Greatest Deal Of All!

By Ian Mcintosh

Freeroll poker tournaments are daily events that happen on a lot of the best online poker websites. Freerolls are much loved by the poker playing community as they offer the poker players the chance to win some real money without losing any. The entry to these freerolls is - as the name suggests - free and prize money can range from a few dollars for a placing to hundreds of dollars for winning the big freeroll Texas Holdem poker tournaments.

So why do the poker sites have freerolls? Is it because of their extremely generous nature and the fact that they make vast sums of money so they feel a moral obligation to give some of it back?

What do you think!

No of course it isn't, the reason that the big poker websites offer freerolls is to attract people to their site.

Here's the theory in a nutshell - You hear that a site has a great freeroll, it costs you nothing to enter and you can win $100. You think "Great!" and you go along to the site and get registered as a member so that you can play the freeroll. You play and finish early and are annoyed because you feel you should have done better, or you go close to winning and so you're looking for some more action. What do you do? You spend some money at the site and play another poker game!

Always check the freerolls for cash-out requirements, you will nearly always need to play some hands for real money before they let you take the money out. Often this is on a 1=1 basis, so if you win $20 at the freeroll poker tournament you will need to have played for $20 in real money in order for you to be able to withdraw the money.

Your Guide to Free Poker Tournaments

By Pritha Biswas

Everyone loves to win, it does not really matter if one is a recreational poker player who loves to indulge in the game once a month or is an aspiring pro who wants to spend hours at the online poker freerolls grinding profits all day.

But it is a well-known fact that most successful poker players do things a little differently than others. While many may boast of this 'different tactic' as a natural instinct, but it is truly about years and years of practice at a skill-based game which involves a lot more than just luck. Being an incomplete information game, poker takes people skills, math skills and sharp decision-making abilities.

To really pinpoint what helps some poker players be successful in maintaining a winning streak while others can't are some tried and tested 'techniques' that seem to work with poker and beat the game.

These techniques are "behind the scene secrets" of many professional poker pros who make thousands of dollars every day online poker tournaments and on live cash tables. But there is more to gaming techniques which offers an unfair advantage to professional poker players, even before cards hit the table.

What to pro players have that others don't?

Most pro players like Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey understand their opponents, 'who' they are playing with matters more to them than the cards they are dealt with. And it is this strategic thinking that enables them to outsmart other players and gain a competitive edge over them.

Once they have their understanding of opponents locked in, they play in conjunction with one of the following 'playing-styles':

- Aggressive playing to win a large pot with a strong hand
- Passive playing to win a weaker hand
- Aggressive playing to let your opponent be duped in folding a stronger hand

You must understand the poker game theory

Simply put, poker game theory is just fundamental rules of profiting from poker. This involves understanding the rules of the game, basic mathematical understanding, understanding percentages, and ability to make good decisions that are profitable in the long run. After all the main aim behind the game is to maximize wins and minimize losses, as suggested by David Sklansky the author of The theory of poker.

How to understand the poker game theory?

It is fairly simple; one simply needs to use theoretically balanced ranges, professionals are capable of playing in line with the most profitable playing style. This translates to a 99.9% win streak against most poker players, which is virtually every time you sit at a table.

While there might be instances where your pocket aces may get cracked by kings or times when you may hit one-outer on the river. However, if one sticks to these profitable styles of play then you can almost guarantee yourself a big win every time.

Additionally there 5 steps one can take to ensure they maintain a winning streak in poker:

• Know what cards you are going to play beforehand
• Disguise your holdings
• Select the right game to play in
• Be prepared to make adjustments for your opponents
• Work towards simplifying major decisions

How Freeroll Poker Tournaments Work

By Andrew Denton

A Freeroll is an online poker tournament, which does not cost you anything to play, but more often than not a heavy prize pool is associated with it. The room that hosts poker is also responsible for sponsoring the Freeroll and putting real money, gifts or merchandise into the prize pool. They are a very useful tool for promoting online poker sites. Many poker rooms host several small Freerolls, while others host only few but with big prizes.

Many sites offer them for new players - in the first month of them joining the site - and also many sites also offer them to players who play regularly at their site - qualification and eligibility is most often through the player accumulating enough poker points (William Hill and Cryptologic rooms do this via their MPP scheme, and Mansion have recently started offering this as well).

Poker players of all abilities have a good chance of winning some serious money through Freeroll tournaments. All you have to do is play the game you love! A lot of effort and time goes into arranging the Freeroll. In case not many players join, the remaining part of the guaranteed prize pool is left with the organizer as 'cover'. When many players join in, the organizer has strong chances of becoming a winner as well as a loser. Poorly subscribed freeroll tournaments can be a very expensive affair!!!!

Clearly players are the biggest winners of poker freerolls. There is hardly anything to lose in poker freerolls and in order to take advantage each player just needs to register and then try their luck in the tournament, in most cases they are operated as a MTT (Multi Table Tournament) meaning their could be a field of more than 10 players playing - as the tournament is played then players are automatically moved around the tables at certain points as other players are beaten and drop out - until finally all that remains are the players at the final table.

Some rooms are now using them as a major promotional tool using newspapers to promote them - William Hill have done this very successfully to encourage new players to join with passwords being printed in the newspapers in order to enable players to register.

The main question that arises is-how to approach a Freeroll and what are the strategies required for success? Anything can be expected in the initial stages of a tournament. The best thing is to sit back and play, to get a feel of your table. Never hesitate in pushing in your chips with big hands (but be careful as always). Since you are into this without any cost, don't be afraid in showing aggression of the good sort, but make sure it is selective aggression and not blind betting. When the money position approaches, many players get scared to play all but premium hands. As a player you can advantage of this situation, steal blinds and build up your stack. If you are able to do this well, you will get a lot of chips once money is easy to reach and also stand a good chance to win the main prize.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself.

Andy Denton runs a number of websites including one specifically on poker strategy and poker site reviews - [http://www.haveaflutter.com/] and also has extensive experience of working in the financial services industry.

Learning to Play Poker by Playing Freeroll Tournaments and Play Money Ring Games

By Thomas Nielsen

Learning to play poker takes practice. In fact, it takes a lot of practice. Most players, to add insult to injury, start out being losing players. Combined, the result is that learning to play poker online can cost you a fair amount of money. This leads some to suggest learning to play by taking advantage of freeroll tournaments and play money ring games. Is this a sound strategy? My opinion is that it is not. Read this article to find out why, and to hear my suggested solution.

What Is a Freeroll Tournament?

All major online poker rooms offer freeroll tournaments. It is simply a tournament where you will not have to pay any fee, and thus entering it will cost you no money. Sounds pretty good, right? Well, the prize for the winner is also very modest. The main problem, though, is that the poker being played in these tournaments is not "real" poker. When players put up no money, they play however they feel like in the moment. Going all-in with a seven deuce offsuit? "No problem, its not like I paid to play."

What it all comes down to is this: you will never learn the skills necessary to be a winning player from playing in freeroll tournaments. The effect money has on the mind is profound, and judging, dealing, and handling this effect is a fundamental skill. A skill that you will, obviously, receive no training in when players have nothing on the line.

Play Money Ring Games

Play money ring games is the ring game equivalent of freeroll tournaments, but the play here is actually even worse. This is due to two factors. First, at least in the tournament there is a prize, so that players lasting long will start to play seriously when said prize is within reach. Secondly, tournaments with large fields generally lends itself well to players with a loose, aggressive style. Thus the maniacs at the freeroll tournaments might be playing very poorly, but at least they are playing poorly in a relatively suitable style. Ring games, on the other hand, requires you to play tight and picking your spots. It is not something you will see in the play money variety, however, and therein lies the problem.

Are They Totally Useless?

I will mention one benefit of play money games and freeroll tournaments. They allow you to get comfortable with the mechanics of it all. How the software works. When you start playing for real money you do not want to be worrying about such things, so I do recommend playing a few hands without risking money, until you are familiar with the software. Then, I recommend getting out of there, before you develop bad habits!

Learning to Play Poker Without Losing Money

As mentioned in the beginning, most novice players are not beating the rake. They might be break even, or close to break even, but rarely more. How, then, can they learn to play real poker while still making a profit? The answer is provided by sign up bonuses. Competition among online poker rooms is fierce, thus all poker rooms offer a bonus when you make your first deposit. Full Tilt Poker, one of the best and largest poker rooms, offers a hundred percent bonus up to $600. Thus, you can deposit, say, a hundred dollars, play for the next three months "losing" fifty dollars, but still end up with fifty dollars in profit. Not to mention invaluable experience.

When you are learning to play poker, take advantage of the generous deposit bonuses. Don't waste your time with play money ring games or freeroll tournaments. Before you know it, you will have learned the skills to be a winning player, and done it while making a profit.

Do you want to take advantage of the $600 deposit bonus? Read this comprehensive Full Tilt Poker review [http://onlinesportsbettingpro.com/?p=77] to find out how.

How to Play Freeroll Poker Tournaments?

By Pankaj Diya Gupta

In freeroll poker tournaments, players can enter without paying any entry fees and yet compete to win some handsome cash prizes or rewards. This article is a step-by-step guide for learning how to play freeroll poker tournaments.

1. First of all, find a freeroll poker tournament to play in.You can search many online poker sites on the internet which are offering the best freeroll poker tournaments. To help you find one more easily, try visiting Online-Poker-Play.com link given in the resource box of this article. It provides an updated list of all upcoming freeroll poker tournaments available at best online poker sites. You may also check other online casino or poker sites or any other gambling site to see if there are any private freeroll games available to play.

2. Check the type of poker games that is being played in the tournament. As there is no entry fee, you may consider this chance to try a new variation of poker, one that you have not mastered. It will cost you nothing if you don't play well, but you will get some valuable experience of playing under real tournament conditions. You can also experiment a new strategy on your favorite poker games. However, if a freeroll poker tournament is the only time you are able to play for prize money, then adhere to the game that you know best.

3. Check whether the game if online or offline. Now adjust your strategy according and ensure that you are able to attend. Also, check you computer and internet connection to ensure that they are running properly.

4. Now check the amount prize money that will be awarded. A really low amount may not be worth your time, while huge cash prize is very inviting. Also consider if the prize has value besides the monetary award. Winning a free seat into a bigger poker tournament, for example, could be worth a huge cash prize if that tournament has a high buy-in.

5. Check out the number of players participating in the tournament. If there is no cap on entrants, the game could possibly last too long for you to be able to play. It may be possible however, that the entrance is limited. In this case, ensure you register before the tournament entries are closed.

7 Best Freeroll Poker Websites For US Players

By Phillip Syrios

Freerolls are a great way to start an online poker bankroll or to increase the size of your bankroll for no risk. They are free to play and you can improve your game while increasing the money in your account. Unfortunately freerolls are not always easy to find, and its even harder to find good ones. To maximize the return you gain from the freerolls you play here is a list of the 7 best websites to play freerolls on so that you do not have to look for them yourself.

7. PokerStars - 5.5/10

PokerStars is often lacking when it comes to freerolls with huge tournaments that are only satellites to other events. Most of their freerolls have thousands and sometimes tens of thousands of players making it very difficult to win anything. But if you want quantity, this is the place to come, its great for people who play freerolls mainly for fun. Plus the prizes they offer are usually often very big such as tickets to big live poker events. If you dream of making it big, this might be the site for you.

6. Absolute Poker - 6/10

They have quite a few freerolls on Absolute Poker. The best ones you can win a little bit of money, around $50, and then get entered into their $1,000 freeroll that they hold once a week, the problem is these freerolls are very big and it is difficult to place, but they are still good. the bonus is there is a shot at both real money and a satilite ticket. They also have a lot of other freerolls where you can win other prizes much like the freerolls on pokerstars where real money is not a part of the prize pool.

5. Ultimate Bet - 6/10

Ultimate Bet is owned by the same company and runs the same freeroll schedule as Absolute poker. Ultimate Bet does have a few different promotions than Absolute poker but they are very similar places to play and run the same freeroll schedule thus they earn the same ranking.

4. Doyles Room - 7/10

Doyles Room has nightly freerolls at 7PM and if you make the top 100 you get a ticket to the $1000 freeroll they have on Sunday which is very good money for a freeroll. The value here is that you have good odds to make it to the $1,000 freeroll making it a worthwhile place to play. There are a few more freerolls where you win tickets to bigger tournaments, but they are harder to win. DoylesRoom does not have any first step freerolls that pay out instant cash, but if you can make it to one of their second round tournaments, you have a good shot at getting a good chunk of instant money.

3. Full Tilt Poker - 8/10

The best part about Full Tilt is how many freerolls they have. What many sites lack in quantity, Full Tilt Poker makes up for it. They run more than a freeroll an hour, which is great if you don't want to plan your day around a freeroll. It's also great if you have a lot of time because you can play a lot of them at once. The big problem is they are not worth all that much money and you have to play through thousands of people. Also you have to register a while before the tournament starts or it will fill up. Its still one of the best freeroll poker sites because it has so may freerolls so often which is very uncommon.

2. Carbon Poker - 8.5/10

Carbon Poker has a solid freeroll system in place with a $50 freeroll every 4 hours. They also have freeroll satellites into their weekly 50K freeroll which is a huge prize pool for a freeroll! Carbon poker mixes quality well with quantity having many freerolls to play with others that have huge payouts, and with only 1,500 players in each of their $50 freerolls, all their freerolls have great value and a great chance to help you build your bankroll.

1. Bodog - 9.5/10

Bodog simply has the best poker freerolls around. They run two $500 freerolls a day, which are the biggest freerolls available without any restrictions, one is at 2:40 PM eastern, and the other is at 9:40 PM eastern. These freerolls typically have around 3,500 players which is a lot, but less than most major websites. One of the big pluses is these freerolls don't fill up, thus you don't need to sign up an hour early like usual. The biggest problem with Bodog is quantity, only having two freerolls a day, but with $1,000 up for grabs everyday, and a first place prize of $120 Bodog offers the best free poker online.
